Sanford Meisner’s impact on the craft of acting has been, and continues to be immense. His altogether unique approach to the craft has impacted generations of actors. “The seed of acting,” said Meisner, “is rooted in the “reality of doing”. Rather than focus on emotion, Meisner focused on behavior. To accomplish his goal of removing the thought process from the actor’s work he invented the “repetition” exercises. In doing so he opened the door to the instinctive/impulsive way of behaving. “Thinking”, for the Mesiner trained actor is the enemy of instinct, ergo, with this revolutionary approach to the craft we learn to think with our gut. As I remind my students in every class I teach, the body speaks and the brain thinks. Emotion therefore is the product of the “pinch” for the “ouch”. Through this process the student learns what it means to “Live truthfully in the imaginary circumstances.” Or as Meisner said in one of his most famous quotes, “An ounce of behavior is worth a pound of words.”

The students will also be learning Script Interpretation/Acting Technique.
