SEPTEMBER 2019 - 2 YEAR SCREEN ACTING CERTIFICATE  PROGRAM

In order to get our students to the next level in their acting careers we have changed our classes into conservatory based programs. The Creative House New 2 year long program is unlike any program on Long Island. Our programs not only include acting, they also include "The Business of Acting" and networking with industry professionals. The programs were designed by our acting coaches, who are professional working actors. Along with talent agents, managers and casting directors we put programs based on what they learned throughout their years in the industry. What they learned and what they wished they learned when starting their careers. The courses are intensive and focuses on equipping each student with the means to encompass the challenges of a demanding industry. By developing professional practices and incorporating it within a project driven approach of ‘learning by doing’. Third & Fourth semester the students are assisted in creating their own reels from work  within the program which are then are sent out to industry contacts during the end of the course.

REQUIREMENTS

There are no previous acting experience requirements to join this course.  If you are brand new to acting, this can  be an advantage.

Note: The Meisner Technique, especially the way it is taught by Alan Gordon at our school, is a specific acting technique that utilizes its "own language" Even if you have previously trained as an actor but have never done Meisner, this is where you must begin.

Sanford Meisner’s impact on the craft of acting has been, and continues to be immense. His altogether unique approach to the craft has impacted generations of actors. “The seed of acting,” said Meisner, “is rooted in the “reality of doing”. Rather than focus on emotion, Meisner focused on behavior. To accomplish his goal of removing the thought process from the actor’s work he invented the “repetition” exercises. In doing so he opened the door to the instinctive/impulsive way of behaving. “Thinking”, for the Mesiner trained actor is the enemy of instinct, ergo, with this revolutionary approach to the craft we learn to think with our gut. As I remind my students in every class I teach, the body speaks and the brain thinks. Emotion therefore is the product of the “pinch” for the “ouch”. Through this process the student learns what it means to “Live truthfully in the imaginary circumstances.” Or as Meisner said in one of his most famous quotes, “An ounce of behavior is worth a pound of words.”

The traditional Meisner program is 2 years. The following is Alan's comprehensive program that includes all the stages of the Meisner Technique
